New
World Teak is
dedicated to transforming plantation grown teak for use in fine quality
lumber, decking, and flooring. Teak has been highly valued by artisans
throughout the ages for its beauty, stability, and durability for both
indoor and outdoor use. We are pleased to offer this prized hardwood grown
on sustainable plantations in the New World.
Why use Teak?
Teak
has qualities unlike any other wood. Teak is dense, rich in oil, almost
impervious to splitting, buckling, and rot, making it termite proof. Once
used in shipbuilding, it withstands the rigors of adverse climate yet
weathers beautifully to a soft silver gray. Teak benches more than a century
old are still in use in Hyde Park, England and places throughout the world.
While our plantation teak (tectona grandis) enjoys the properties of forest
grown Burmese teak, it is a sustainable, environmental product sold at
a substantially lower price. When amortized over the years, because of
its quality and longevity, plantation teak is one of the better investments
around.
Teak is the premier wood for outdoor use because of its durability and
defiance of the weather. Since teak is one of the world's most stable
hardwoods; it is an excellent choice for indoor use such as flooring and
furniture, especially in applications on or near the water or with large
variations in seasonal humidity.
