New
World Teak
is proud to be part of a global effort to reforest tropical rain forests
through planting and sustainable harvesting of teak plantations. The plantations
we are involved with are owned and operated by families in Latin America,
that converted grazing land to forest land four generations
ago. The focus is on what this generation can do to ensure a livelihood
for the generations that follow. Painstaking care was taken in the selection
of seed stock for desired qualities and characteristics of trees. The
harvesting is done with integrity to maintain the continuation of the
forest with minimum impact on the environment.
We are pleased that the
resource base for our teak products is truly sustainable. Teak has been
highly valued by artisans throughout the ages. It has been traded world-wide
for other hardwood for its beauty, stability, and durability for both
indoor and outdoor use.
Its incredible withstanding of changing weather conditions has contributed
to its desirability. Teak's inherent hardness, which is close to traditional
red oak, lends itself for use in fine furniture, flooring, and interior
millwork.
Because
of its special weather resistant properties it also has a long history
of use in boat building, outdoor furniture, and exterior building
uses, such as decking, exterior siding, and gazebos.
At New World Teak, we are dedicated to combining an old world tradition
with the use of the latest drying and milling techniques to produce state-of-the-art
quality products, all manufactured in the California Bay Area. Our intention
is the combination of integrity in our resource use and quality of workmanship
in all our teak products.
